Its The Economy Stupid – How Messed Up is the US Economy

Excerpts from a thorough article about the “state of the US economy”….

19 Very Surprising Facts About The Messed Up State Of The U.S. Economy

#1 After accounting for inflation, median household income in the United States is 8 percent lower than it was when the last recession started in 2007.

#2 The number of part-time workers in America has increased by 54 percent since the last recession began in December 2007.  Meanwhile, the number of full-time jobs has dropped by more than a million over that same time period.

#3 More than 7 million Americans that are currently working part-time jobs would actually like to have full-time jobs.

#4 The jobs gained during this “recovery” pay an average of 23 percent less than the jobs that were lost during the last recession.

#5 The number of unemployed workers that have completely given up looking for work is twice as high now as it was when the last recession began in December 2007.

#6 When the last recession began, about 17 percent of all unemployed workers had been out of work for six months or longer.  Today, that number sits at just above 34 percent.

#7 Due to a lack of decent jobs, half of all college graduates are still relying on their parents financially when they are two years out of school.

#8 According to a new method of calculating poverty devised by the U.S. Census Bureau, the state of California currently has a poverty rate of23.4 percent.

#9 According to the New York Times, the “typical American household” is now worth 36 percent less than it was worth a decade ago.

#10 In 2007, the average household in the top 5 percent had 16.5 times as much wealth as the average household overall.  But now the average household in the top 5 percent has 24 times as much wealth as the average household overall.

#11 In an absolutely stunning development, the rate of small business ownership in the United States has plunged to an all-time low.

#12 Subprime loans now make up 31 percent of all auto loans in America.  Didn’t that end up really badly when the housing industry tried the same thing?

#13 The average cost of producing a barrel of shale oil in the United States is approximately 85 dollars.  Now that the price of oil is starting to slip under that number, the “shale boom” in America could turn into a bust very rapidly.

#14 On a purchasing power basis, China now actually has a larger economy than the United States does.

#15 It is hard to believe, but there are 49 million people that are dealing with food insecurity in America today.

#16 There are six banks in the United States that pretty much everyone agrees fit into the “too big to fail” category.  Five of them have more than 40 trillion dollars of exposure to derivatives.

#17 The 113 top earning employees at the Federal Reserve headquarters in Washington D.C. make an average of $246,506 a year.  It turns out that ruining the U.S. economy is a very lucrative profession.

#18 We are told that the federal deficit is under control, but the truth is that the U.S. national debt increased by more than a trillion dollarsduring fiscal year 2014.

#19 An astounding 40 million dollars has been spent just on vacations for Barack Obama and his family.  Perhaps he figures that if we are going down as a nation anyway, he might as well enjoy the ride.

Heritage Report – Obamacare Enrollment Increase From Medicaid Expansion

Obama brags that Obamaare is working well. Hmmm – if you’d like the nitty gritty on some parts of the so called “Affordable Care Act”, check out this report…

Health insurance enrollment data show that the number of Americans with private health insurance coverage increased by a bit less than 2.5 million in the first half of 2014. While enrollment in individual market coverage grew by almost 6.3 million, 61 percent of that gain was offset by a reduction of nearly 3.8 million individuals with employer-sponsored coverage. During the same period, Medicaid enrollment increased by almost 6.1 million—principally as a result of Obamacare expanding eligibility to able-bodied, working-age adults. Consequently, 71 percent of the combined increase in health insurance coverage during the first half of 2014 was attributable to 25 states and the District of Columbia adopting the Obamacare Medicaid expansion.

A Few Words from the Grey Haired Brigade About the 2014 Elections

I got this in my email this evening – and thought out blog readers might enjoy it. Feel free to share….
You and I are Members, Don’t Delete, Just Read and Pass on
The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday.
They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are “Baby Boomers” getting ready to retire.
Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were.  We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God and grown old together.  Yes, we  are the ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably true.
But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration.  In school we studied English, history, math, and science which enabled us to lead America into the technological age.  Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines,  25 cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes.  For those of you who don’t know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators.  A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.
We are probably considered old fashioned and out-dated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off.  We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam . We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing so.  We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn’t fight for the Socialist States of America; we fought for the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.” We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag.  We know the words to the Star Spangled Banner , America , and America the Beautiful by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for
Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us.  We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it.  It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.
It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the DemocraticCongress.  You fell for the “Hope and Change” which in reality was nothing but “Hype and Lies.”   The youngsters have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found they don’t like it
after all.  They make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or “Climbing the Social Ladder” to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell for the “Great Lie” in 2008 are now having buyer’s remorse.
With all the education we gave you, you didn’t have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the ‘Kool-Aid.’ Now you’re paying the price and complaining about it.  No jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom.  This is what they voted for and this is what they got. We entrusted them with the Torch of Liberty and they traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.
Well, don’t worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and in 2014 we are going to take back our nation.  We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where we’re going, and in 2014 we’re going to the polls by the millions. This land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the likes of Nancy Pelosi,  Harry Reid, and Eric Holder.  It belongs to “We the People” and “We the People” plan to reclaim our land and our freedom.  We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grand-children.
So, the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, Stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the “Grey-Haired Brigade.”

Can you feel the ground shaking???
It’s not an earthquake, it is a STAMPEDE!

Urban Health Initiative – Was it Meant to Help the Poor or the Hospital?

Years before Michelle Obama and Valerie Jared took their current positions in the White House – they were deeply involved in the Urban Health Initiative. I hadn’t heard about this. But its interesting information and makes you wonder – were there strategic reasons why Michelle Obama – a former VP at Chicago University Hospital – wasn’t really in the public eye during the many months of coverage about Obama Care. This story could certainly be a reason to keep her out of the public eye while trying to shove the so called “Affordable Care Act” down the throat of the American public.

Michelle Obama and Valerie Jarret in a so-called Patient Dumping Plan??

I do not have additional information at this moment about this situation – but it is an interesting story to dig into deeper….

I’m frightened…are you?

Obama-4-23-12Facebook is a great social media for sharing and enjoying the posts of others.  Of course there are some users you wish would find another way to utilize their time, but today, I engaged in a conversation about the Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare.  While some are singing the praises of a president who provided them insurance despite pre-existing conditions, others are bemoaning the ridiculous co-pays and deductibles they now face.  I’m honestly trying to remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion and keep out of political rants, but I couldn’t help myself..and needed to share my opinion, and it got me thinking.  (If you click the FB link, you’ll be taken to a video everyone should see.)

As a victim of Obamacare, since my previous provider bailed on my retirement system, I was changed to a policy over which I had no choice because I live out of state.  Although my deductibles are not ridiculous… and since the change my spouse and I are both primarily Medicare, we don’t face the problem my son and his family do.  They have a $2500 per person deducible, and the insurance refuses to cover his wife because she is also employed and can provide her own. Of course, the cost is prohibitive and adds a further burden.

Someone has to pay for all those people who didn’t have insurance previously, and guess where the burden lies.  We taxpayers are also footing the bill for all those free phones Obama is giving away for emergency situations.  Of course, the fact that I’ve seen interviews of welfare recipients who have more than one makes me question the validity of the decision, but what really fries me is trying to understand why we’re paying for 250 texting minutes for phones that are to be used in emergencies.  What’s up with that?

The current administration has added so much to the national debt, despite promising to reduce the deficit and maintain transparency.  Transparency, to me, means we should know what’s going on, but do we?  Rumors circulate that Medicare and Social Security funds have been funneled elsewhere despite the fact that employees paid into accounts to sustain them in their senior years.  The rumors, and they continue to be rumors because I’m sure the government doesn’t want to admit thievery, scare me senseless.  My husband and I are totally dependent upon those two funds to sustain us.  We would be screwed if the funds are indeed ready to run out.

I’m totally disappointed in the current administration.  Obama’s campaign promises of transparency and change have both been bold-faced lies.  The changes have been disappointing, if not expensive. and his need to act autonomously leaves the public wondering what’s around the corner. Remember his statement…”I have a pen and a phone?”  Why he hasn’t been impeached is a mystery and how some folks can still praise and find him a supreme leader is beyond my comprehension.  Our future is walking a perilous line.

I only hope the right candidate comes along who cares about the older American public and addresses issues that keep us secure. Wouldn’t it be wonderful  if  Americans disregarded their political affiliation and voted a PERSON not a PARTY? The two party system has divided us and makes us choose a side.  Voting for an Independent is like throwing your vote in the trash because family tradition is at work against anyone who dares stray from making a choice and picking one side of a line that’s been drawn by the Dem/GOP.  There  are too many people who follow Grandpa’s lead instead of taking time to investigate on their own and cast an educated vote.  There shouldn’t be an “aisle” and finger-pointing on both sides.  We should be one party UNITED for the good of America.

Did I say  “hope?”  Actually, I PRAY  for those miracles. We need someone who can restore the respect we’ve lost overseas, someone who isn’t afraid to truly run a transparent administration, and someone who believes in the constitution.  Even more, we need some who believes in closing the borders and having people enter legally to earn the benefits they are getting for free now.  I can’t afford to support thousands of refugee children….can you?  Enough said.

Why Are We Still Buying Oil From the Middle East

I’ve heard bits and pieces about this — but just found the USGS post about the amount of oil in the US. That’s right – within our borders, and buying this oil would NOT help people who hate us.  And – check out the date when this was first published….

Reston, VA – North Dakota and Montana have an estimated 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil in an area known as the Bakken Formation.

A U.S. Geological Survey assessment, released April 10, shows a 25-fold increase in the amount of oil that can be recovered compared to the agency’s 1995 estimate of 151 million barrels of oil.

Technically recoverable oil resources are those producible using currently available technology and industry practices. USGS is the only provider of publicly available estimates of undiscovered technically recoverable oil and gas resources.

New geologic models applied to the Bakken Formation, advances in drilling and production technologies, and recent oil discoveries have resulted in these substantially larger technically recoverable oil volumes. About 105 million barrels of oil were produced from the Bakken Formation by the end of 2007.

The USGS Bakken study was undertaken as part of a nationwide project assessing domestic petroleum basins using standardized methodology and protocol as required by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 2000.

The Bakken Formation estimate is larger than all other current USGS oil assessments of the lower 48 states and is the largest “continuous” oil accumulation ever assessed by the USGS. A “continuous” oil accumulation means that the oil resource is dispersed throughout a geologic formation rather than existing as discrete, localized occurrences. The next largest “continuous” oil accumulation in the U.S. is in the Austin Chalk of Texas and Louisiana, with an undiscovered estimate of 1.0 billions of barrels of technically recoverable oil.

“It is clear that the Bakken formation contains a significant amount of oil – the question is how much of that oil is recoverable using today’s technology?” said Senator Byron Dorgan, of North Dakota. “To get an answer to this important question, I requested that the U.S. Geological Survey complete this study, which will provide an up-to-date estimate on the amount of technically recoverable oil resources in the Bakken Shale formation.”

The USGS estimate of 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil has a mean value of 3.65 billion barrels. Scientists conducted detailed studies in stratigraphy and structural geology and the modeling of petroleum geochemistry. They also combined their findings with historical exploration and production analyses to determine the undiscovered, technically recoverable oil estimates.

USGS worked with the North Dakota Geological Survey, a number of petroleum industry companies and independents, universities and other experts to develop a geological understanding of the Bakken Formation. These groups provided critical information and feedback on geological and engineering concepts important to building the geologic and production models used in the assessment.

Five continuous assessment units (AU) were identified and assessed in the Bakken Formation of North Dakota and Montana – the Elm Coulee-Billings Nose AU, the Central Basin-Poplar Dome AU, the Nesson-Little Knife Structural AU, the Eastern Expulsion Threshold AU, and the Northwest Expulsion Threshold AU.

At the time of the assessment, a limited number of wells have produced oil from three of the assessments units in Central Basin-Poplar Dome, Eastern Expulsion Threshold, and Northwest Expulsion Threshold.
The Elm Coulee oil field in Montana, discovered in 2000, has produced about 65 million barrels of the 105 million barrels of oil recovered from the Bakken Formation.

Results of the assessment can be found at

Something to Consider This 4th of July Weekend

Heading into the 4th of July weekend – the freedoms that our ancestors and the Founding Fathers fought for, should be on our minds. That is one of the reasons I wanted to share this post — please share….

This is from Neils Politics Yahoo Group —

It doesn’t matter if you are a veteran or not.  Please read and forward this to all your e-mail buddies.  Let it go viral.

The 2014 United States elections will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. During this midterm election year, all 435 seats in the of Representatives and 33 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested in this election. Get out and VOTE!

A movement has started in our armed forces to get out the vote in 2014…They are organizing themselves, but this can be done by all of us.

The President, the Commander in Chief, has made the Rules of Engagement (ROE) so difficult that our troops are often killed before they can get permission to fight.

Nothing has been done to stop our troops from being murdered by the Afghanis they are training, either.

Now, the President wants the US to sign on to the UNs International Criminal Court (ICC), which would allow the UN’s ICC to arrest and try US troops for War Crimes, without the legal protections guaranteed under US Law, and from which there is no appeal. The President, with his Democratic control of the Senate, has nearly all the power.

If the Non-Establishment Republicans, and Conservatives, can take back the Senate in 2014, our troops can once again be protected from unnecessary danger.

Please consider this, and send it on to your mailing lists.

Interestingly enough, when GWB was president you heard about the military deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan almost daily. With Obama in the White House, the mainstream media has been strangely quiet.

More than 1,000 American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan in the last 27 months. This is more than the combined total of the five years before that.

Many have died since August. During the last six month, over 50 additional NATO and US servicemen have been murdered, inside jobs by those who are hired to be a “force for good in Afghanistan .”

The commander in chief is AWOL. Not a peep, although he ordered the White House flag flown at half-staff for the Sikhs that were killed.

There is a deep disgust, a fury, growing in the ranks of the military against the indifferent incompetence of this president.

It has taken on a dangerous tone. No one knows what to do about him, but the anger runs deep as the deaths continue with no strategic end in sight to the idiocy of this war.

Obama has had 5 years to end this futile insanity, during which time he has vacationed, golfed, campaigned, and generally ignored the plight of our men and women in uniform.

There is now a movement afoot in the armed services to launch a massive “get out the vote” drive against this president’s party. Not just current active duty types, but the National Guard, Reserves, the retired, and all other prior service members.

This is no small special interest group, but many millions of veterans who can have an enormous impact on the outcome of the November 2014 mid-term election, if they all respond.

The one million military retirees in Florida alone could mean an overwhelming victory in that state if they all show up at the polls.

It might not keep another one hundred U.S. troops from dying between now and November, but a turnout to vote by the military against this heart breaking lack of leadership can make a powerful statement that hastens a change to the indifference of this shallow little man who just lets our soldiers die.
