Why Does There Seem to be So Little Accountability For People in Positions of Authority

Many people have been talking about how there seems to be no accountability for people in authority – but they do enjoy using their power, and not always to help people. That could be the topic of many different blog posts – focusing on local police and politicians, the state authorities, all the up to members of Congress, cabinet holders and the President. But we’ll leave those topics for another day. I saw this article a bicycle rider being killed by a LASD deputy and no charges were even filed.

I think one of the reasons this bothers me is that I’ve seen local policemen abusing their authority – even in small town America. Whether it was spending hours on the phone with their girlfriends while working, pulling people over with lights flashing to get information on people, pulling people over and refusing to give any reason for the stop and on and on and on.

I realize the feeling of being above the law or the Constitution in some cases. is becoming more prevalent — but we are a nation of laws. I’m not talking about the bit picky regulations or other rules and laws being pushed by members of the nanny state. But there are many laws on the books that are actually for the good of all “we the people”.

I want to share some information about the officer who hit the bicyclist – feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.

No charges for LASD deputy who fatally struck cyclist while typing on computer

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to press charges against a sheriff’s deputy who was apparently distracted by his mobile digital computer when he fatally struck cyclist Milton Olin Jr. in Calabasas in December, officials announced Wednesday.

Olin, a prominent entertainment attorney, was riding his bicycle in the 22400 block of Mulholland Highway when he was struck by L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Wood’s patrol car in the bicycle lane on the afternoon of Dec. 8. The former A&M Records and Napster executive reportedly landed on the windshield and shattered the glass before rolling off the patrol car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wood, a 16-year department veteran, was returning from a fire call at Calabasas High School at the time of the collision.

“Wood entered the bicycle lane as a result of inattention caused by typing into his (Mobile Digital Computer),” according to the declination letter prepared by the Justice System Integrity Division of the District Attorney’s Office and released Wednesday. “He was responding to a deputy who was inquiring whether the fire investigation had been completed. Since Wood was acting within the course and scope of his duties when he began to type his response, under Vehicle Code section 23123.5, he acted lawfully.”

The law does not prohibit officers from using an electronic wireless communications device in the performance of their duties, according to the letter. Furthermore, prosecutors said it was “reasonable” that Wood would have felt that an immediate response was necessary so that a Calabasas deputy wouldn’t unnecessarily respond to the high school.

This is another one that makes you wonder — and there is even a video. I am not defending her actions behind the wheel – there is no reason to drink drunk, but did that justify what it appears the police did to her? Or do you believe that she “vaulted herself off the wall”?

Cops Claim this Woman “Vaulted Herself off the Wall.” The Video Says Otherwise

Emily Evans was brought into Montgomery County Jail in Dayton, Ohio, because she was driving drunk. However, the fact that she was drunk did not justify the gross use of force once she was brought inside the jail.

During Evans’ booking she was obviously intoxicated and uncooperative but did her behavior constitute having a taser pointed at her face and the brutal body slam that followed?

This incident all began back on March 30th. Evans was brought in because she blew twice the legal limit during a traffic stop. During a search of Evans, while surrounded by 5 cops, police claim that Evans “vaulted herself off the wall,” thereby causing the severe injuries to herself.

What do you think? Did she “vault herself off the wall”?

Justice for None in Ferguson

Now that the violence and most of the rhetoric has calmed down in Ferguson, Mo, it’s time for a voice of reason to be heard. The following is an excellent article on race relations in our country, written by Lee Habeeb. Everyone, white and black, should read this.

In what’s perhaps the best book written on the subject of race, intolerance, and mob justice, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird homes in on the trial of a black man, Tom Robinson, falsely accused of rape by a white girl and her family. A white lawyer in town — Atticus Finch — steps up, and to the dismay of his white neighbors, takes Robinson’s case. Finch does his best to prove the innocence of his client beyond a reasonable doubt.

“I am confident that you will review, without passion, the evidence you have heard, and come to a decision, and restore this man to his family. In the name of God, do your duty,” Gregory Peck, playing Atticus in the movie version, urged the all-white jury in his closing statement.

The facts didn’t matter. The jury found Tom Robinson guilty of rape despite the evidence. He was guilty of being a black man.

In Ferguson the past two weeks, amid all of the legitimate criticism of local law enforcement’s heavy-handed tactics and ham-handed communications, I was waiting for one Atticus Finch–like black voice to emerge from the cast of characters who converged on Ferguson. Waiting for one person — particularly from the civil-rights establishment — to make the case that the man who shot Michael Brown had civil rights of his own, a right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence among them.

I was waiting for one black TV anchor or media pundit or black leader to push back against the mob-justice mentality and dare to suggest that maybe — just maybe — Officer Darren Wilson wasn’t guilty of a crime. That something terrible happened on that street in Ferguson, but it might not lead to a criminal conviction.

I was waiting for one courageous black person to talk about Michael Brown’s disturbing conduct in that bodega minutes before his death. Really talk about it. The 18-year-old didn’t just steal cigars from that store. He did it at 11:40 a.m., got caught by the owner, and rather than apologize and give the cigars back, got in the owner’s face and pushed him. “Big Mike” bullied that store owner and headed out the door. That was no ordinary case of shoplifting we watched. It was a video of a young man with no boundaries.

I was waiting for someone who wasn’t white to point out that maybe Michael Brown’s conduct had something do with the tragic events that led to his death. That maybe – just maybe — he bore some responsibility for his own death.

The fact is that for all the talk about racial sensitivity and racial understanding, for far too many black people in this country, that white officer is guilty of a crime no matter what a jury says. And far too many white people will think Officer Wilson is innocent of a crime, no matter what a jury says.

That’s the racial divide a Pew Poll exposed last week. It turns out that 80 percent of African Americans believe the case raises important issues about race, compared with only 37 percent of whites. African Americans were twice as likely to believe the police response was excessive.

But here’s one question Pew didn’t ask: If Officer Wilson had been black, would we have heard the outcry in those streets?

Do the media really care if one black man — with a badge or without — guns down another black man? If George Zimmerman had been black — instead of a “white Hispanic” — would the media have shown up in force?

It’s a brand of racism that nobody’s talking about, because it showcases America’s disregard for black life. We value the deaths of black people only when a white person is involved.

It happens every day across America without fanfare: Young black men murder young black men, and there’s hardly a peep from anyone.

Why didn’t America hear about the senseless execution of a 9-year-old black boy in Chicago last week? Or the eight black men and three black women killed the week before last in the Windy City alone?

Where’s the outrage? Where are the black leaders? And white leaders too? And where’s the media?

The world knows Michael Brown’s name. And Trayvon Martin’s. But they should know Antonio Smith’s, too.

He was the aforementioned 9-year-old boy from Chicago. Antonio called his mom on the afternoon of August 21 while she was on her way home from work and asked to have a cupcake. She said no. So the 9-year-old got mad and ran out of his family’s apartment. He never came home.

Witnesses heard six shots fired not long after Antonio left his home. It was 4:05 p.m. — broad daylight. Antonio’s body was found not long after those reports, and not far from his house on a concrete slab. It was a few feet from railroad tracks that have long acted as a dividing line between rival gangs.

“My boy, he was an angel,” his mother Brandi Murry told a local reporter. Nicknamed Hamburger after his love of the sandwich, Antonio loved to dance to Chris Brown songs. “He loved telling jokes,” his mom added. “All he did was joke and laugh and play.”

Antonio was shot in the chest, hands, and arms. One bullet pierced his heart. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and an hour later was pronounced dead.

“I’m just going to put them in my prayers,” a friend of Antonio’s family told reporters. “Everybody’s killing each other.”

Police have no leads in Antonio’s murder. But one thing is near certain: A white person didn’t commit this crime. And that doesn’t interest the national media or our national leaders — black or white.

Tragically, Antonio’s death doesn’t interest most white Americans, either. But when young white kids are killed by white assailants like they were in Newtown and Columbine, or young white girls are tortured and raped like they were by that white sexual predator in Ohio, the media pounces. And white Americans tune in because they see themselves on that screen.

“There but for the grace of God go I,” goes the thinking. Those kids could have been my kids. Our inner cities are Columbine and Newtown every day. It’s a national crisis — one that old adages and old slogans won’t repair.

“Blacks represent 13 percent of the population but commit 50 percent of the murders; 90 percent of black victims are murdered by other blacks. The facts suggest that history is not enough to explain this social disaster,” wrote Joe Klein in a recent essay in Time magazine.

“Black crime rates are much higher than they were before the civil rights movement,” Klein continued. “These problems won’t be solved simply by the recognition of historic grievances. Absent a truly candid conversation about the culture that emerged from slavery and segregation, they won’t be solved at all.”

Part of that conversation must include the ways in which young black men are warehoused in inner-city jails for low-level offenses. Warehoused in dysfunctional schools that have been failing them for generations. Warehoused in dystopian housing that often looks and feels like prison, with gang members instead of corrections officers acting as the guards.

Part of that conversation must include the fact that 75 percent of African-American babies are born without fathers and how that lack of masculine love paves the path to gangs and crime and all kinds of other bad outcomes.

Part of that conversation must include the startlingly high unemployment rate of black Americans, which is twice that of whites.

And the usual bromides won’t suffice on either the left or right. By blacks or whites. One thing is certain: Young men and women staring down such bleak prospects can lose hope. They watch TV. They see the options other children have in neighborhoods not far from theirs. When young people don’t have hope, they do senseless things, especially when they think the society they live in doesn’t care whether they live or die.

In July 2004, Bill Cosby dared to speak of these matters at an NAACP celebration of the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. Racism isn’t the biggest problem facing the African-American community, he told the crowd; fatherlessness is. It’s the root cause of so many of the problems that young black children face.

What’s Going on in Ferguson?

Do the happenings in Ferguson, Mo seem normal to anyone? It’s been ten days! The reaction of the citizens of this predominantly black Missouri town is bordering on fanaticism at this point in time. Why are they still marching? Why are they still looting? They’ve had two autopsies, and Eric Holder is requesting another one at the Federal level. Holder is coming to their rescue. The Governor spoke out calling for an aggressive prosecution. Obama took time from his vacation to speak on the matter. It looks to me like everything is going in their favor…except for the facts as I understand them.

But for Obama, Ferguson is a splendid gift of a distraction.

Here is an interesting blog that I read on Red Flag News. It was written by Wayne Allyn Root of WMD…

There is something very wrong. I can feel it. Can’t you?

The unrest and rioting is getting worse in Ferguson. Get used to it. More unrest is on the way … soon to a street near you. Obama never lets a good crisis go to waste. For Obama, this is the perfect crisis.

August 9. That was the day that a young black male was shot and killed by police in Ferguson, Missouri. That was 10 days ago. The situation has smoldered for 10 long days. Monday night two people were shot, 31 arrested.

This situation could have been defused 10 days ago with an appearance by the president. Barack Obama isn’t just any president; he’s the first black president. The young man killed by police was a black male. The smoldering town is predominantly black. The angry crowds are black Americans. A few words from Obama while standing on the ground in Ferguson could have put this smoldering fire out days ago.

Obama could have stopped this fire from getting out of control at any time of his choosing. So where was Obama? Why doesn’t he want to put the fire out?

My new book, “The Murder of the Middle Class,” is all about the accelerating decline and destruction of America under Barack Obama. Nothing Obama does is by mistake. Everything has a purpose. Everything fits an agenda to “fundamentally change America.” Obama never lets a crisis go to waste. He uses every crisis to distract the people. Don’t look now, but Ferguson is the perfect crisis, at the perfect time. This one came on a silver platter!

What is Obama distracting us from? Pick a story, any story. America is crumbling on all fronts. Jobs. The economy. Immigration. Obamacare. Israel. Putin. ISIS. It’s all going bad. Fast.

The economy is in crisis (there’s that word again). The decline for middle-class Americans gets worse by the day. The only jobs being reported by government and their media lapdogs are crummy part-time jobs that keep the employee dependent on government. Obamacare is a disaster. Health insurance premiums are up 88 percent in California. They are up more since Obamacare took effect than in the eight prior years COMBINED. Obamacare is bankrupting the middle class ad therefore destroying the economy.

The Southern border of the United States is under attack. Obama refuses to put up a wall. He refuses to deport the thousands showing up every day. He’s assigning them lawyers. He is relocating thousands of illegal-alien gang-bangers at the border into middle class neighborhoods and schools near you. These aren’t sweet kids. They are hardened criminals and drug dealers with tattoos from head to toe. At the same time Obama chose to release tens of thousands of violent illegal alien felons from America’s prisons.

And worldwide, the meltdown is even worse. The world under Obama is on fire. Pick a zone, any zone. Israel, Syria, Iran, ISIS in Iraq, Ukraine. Disaster is unfolding across the globe. America, American interests, American exceptionalism, Christianity itself … they are all under attack. Obama is the first president in history to put a hold on arms shipments to Israel in the middle of a life-or-death conflict. Our enemies are emboldened.

So how do you hide and distract the masses from this unfolding multi-pronged disaster? How do you try to change landslide losses in the upcoming midterm elections? You change the game. You create strife and division. Racial division. It’s the perfect cover.

Watch tonight’s news. Count the minutes on all these stories versus Ferguson. It’s Obama’s dream come true! The perfect distraction. Heck, not only is Ferguson eating up all the air in the room, but Brian Williams and the NBC national news was coming from Ferguson last night. Can you imagine if unrest, rioting and looting spreads to cities across America? It will dominate the news for weeks, pushing all Obama’s disasters off the air.

Obama has stirred the pot for six years now. Black against white. Rich against poor. Men against women. Republicans against Democrats. Private sector against public servants. Taxpayers against the tax takers. Obama needs “division.” Race warfare. Class warfare. Anger. Resentment. Civil war. America is bursting at the seams. It’s all part of the agenda. It’s all part of the Cloward-Piven plan we learned as classmates at Columbia University, Class of ’83. Obama desperately needs to distract the people to carry out his plan to destroy this country. He is following the plan to a T.

Enter Ferguson, Missouri. The first black president has had 10 days to defuse unrest among black protesters in Ferguson. He could have ended this any time in the last 10 days.

Obama has had 10 days to point out that thousands of blacks are killed by other blacks every year – with no protests, no unrest, no crowds. Ten days to point out that in one weekend in Chicago there are often 25 blacks killed by other blacks and dozens shot and injured – without a word of protest.

Ten days to point out that there are no facts in about this case. That no one knows if this kid (Michael Brown) was in fact innocent, or if he was charging a police officer, high on drugs, after a strong-arm robbery, and after already punching the cop and trying to grab his gun. Obama could have pointed out that this is no cut-and-dried case of police brutality or racism. There isn’t a shred of evidence to indicate race had anything to do with this shooting.

But that’s not part of the plan. Ferguson just happened to come along at the perfect time. It’s exactly what Obama needed. Ferguson is the perfect match to light the fire. Here is the perfect opportunity to divide the nation, to incite unrest and violence across America.

If the American people are fighting each other, they won’t see what is really happening to the country. And think of the bonuses here. Obama could use spreading unrest to declare martial law. This crisis could accelerate Obama’s plans times a thousand. Cloward and Piven are smiling. Saul Alinsky is nodding. Karl Marx is applauding.

Ferguson is just the start. Obama has lit the match. America is on fire.

How Historians Will Look at Obama

I came across this article and it expresses so well the problem with voting an inexperienced man to be the president of the USA, that I just have to share it. Sadly, since Matt Patterson wrote this on The American Thinker blogsite, thinks have gone from bad to worse concerning this president and the mess he has made of everything he touches.

Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, the result of a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world’s largest economy, direct the world’s most powerful military, execute the world’s most consequential job?

Imagine a future historian examining Obama’s pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League, despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a “community organizer;” a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, less often did he vote “present”); and finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions.

He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as a legislator. And then there is the matter of his troubling associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama’s “spiritual mentor;” a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama’s colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president? There is no evidence that he ever attended or worked for any university or that he ever sat for the Illinois bar. We have no documentation for any of his claims. He may well be the greatest hoax in history.

Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberal Dom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were ‘a bit’ extreme, he was given a pass. Let that sink in: Obama was given a pass – held to a lower standard because of the color of his skin.

Podhoretz continues: And in any case, what did such ancient history matter when he was also so articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said) “non-threatening,” all of which gave him a fighting chance to become the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest?

Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon – affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don’t care if these minority students fail; liberals aren’t around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self-esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action. Yes, racist. Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin – that’s affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn’t racism, then nothing is.

And that is what America did to Obama. True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be? As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate. All his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary.

What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display every time Obama speaks? In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama’s oratory skills, intellect, and cool character. Those people – conservatives included – ought now to be deeply embarrassed.

The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of cliches, and that’s when he has his Teleprompters in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can barely think or speak at all. Not one original idea has ever issued from his mouth – it’s all warmed-over Marxism of the kind that has failed over and over again for 100 years. (An example is his 2012 campaign speeches which are almost word for word his 2008 speeches)

And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited this mess. Remember, he wanted the job, campaigned for the task. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his own powerless-ness, so comfortable with his own incompetence. (The other day he actually came out and said no one could have done anything to get our economy and country back on track). But really, what were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do we expect him to act responsibly? In short: our president is a small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job. When you understand that, and only when you understand that, will the current erosion of liberty and prosperity make sense. It could not have gone otherwise with such an impostor in the Oval Office.
